The league table ranks companies by sales growth over their latest three financial years.
Sales for pieminister have grown just over 45% a year, from 1.6m in 2007 to 5m in 2010. Today pieminister produces 3.5m pies a year and is stocked in all the major UK supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. pieminister also runs a highly successful and expanding chain of shops and stalls throughout the country, with plans to move across the waters into new territories and is known as the place to buy good food at the UK’s leading music festivals each Summer.
The undisputed leader of the pie revolution pieminister has created a range of pies that includes the Moo and Blue pie (British Beef Steak and Long Clawson Stilton) and the Heidi pie (West country goats’ cheese, roasted garlic and sweet potato) Their original pie range are all medallists in the Great Taste Awards and they continue to develop innovative products such as the new pieMINIster range (pies for people with smaller appetites) plus an ever changing range of seasonal pies (the festive Three Kings pie is currently the fastest-selling single pie available through Ocado).
Pieminister only use responsibly-sourced ingredients and free range British meat. This, combined with their distinct and humorous marketing and branding has helped the company reinvent the pie for a new, younger generation.
pieminister is one of four family-run businesses to have made it into the top 100 this year. Using personal savings brother-in-laws Tristan Hogg (31) and Jon Simon (38) founded pieminister in 2003 following travels to Australia where they discovered that the pies there were far better than the ones available back home. They decided they could breathe new life into the ‘Great British Pie’ using superior ingredients and a uniquely-developed pastry.
